2006年12月18日是科学普及出版社建社50周年喜庆的日子。在欢乐的乐曲声中，著名画家、美术教育家，徐湛教授走上主席台，接受中国科协主席邓楠姚和社长姚义贤亲自颁发的荣誉作者证书。著名画家徐湛教授是中华文化学院中国花鸟画研修院常务院长、教授、研究生导师。早在1986年他就与科普出版社合作，编撰了《学国画》第1、2、3集，至今畅销不衰，印数已达50万册。在国内中国画技法教材中是公认的普及面最广、发行量最高、在书画界影响最大的教材。徐湛院长还是中央电视台《夕阳红》书画讲座特邀主讲教授。在《夕阳红》讲课三年之久，覆盖面达全球，尤其在海内外华人中产生了巨大的影响。2006年中央数字电视台又开设了《书画频道》，并特设《跟徐湛学国画》专栏，目前正在播放。据悉，《书画频道》已和科普出版社达成协议，将在近期出版电视讲课VCD光盘并配套出版技法教材，为广大书画爱好者提供一个新的更为方便的学习课堂。
